Funding is being sought for revolving and on-going projects.
Malima Primary School is a private school in the sense that it does not receive regular funding from the government of Cameroon, nor from the parents of children in the system. Funding is sought in the way of sponsorship of individual children, for whom their nominal 'school fees' are set at €120 per annum, or 78,720 Central African Francs (cfa). In addition we seek special funding for projects over and above the normal running of the school.
Normal running costs of the school, including teacher salaries and classroom materials, taxes and incidental administration expenses, approximate €23.000 per annum.
Our children have all expressed the desire to go on to secondary education. The first three graduating classes saw such enthusiasm that 100% of the students sat the secondary exams and all were found places. Annual fees at the secondary level are approximately the same as for elementary, plus boarding costs that are met by parents and extended family members. Current costs to support these children are running as follows:
- 55 children in the secondary system @ €120 each = €6.000 per annum (4,329,600 cfa)
- This cost has the potential to rise to €12.000 (7,872,000 cfa) annually once there are fours years fully subscribed of 25 students each
- Projected total annual basic running costs per annum is approximately €29.000 euros, rising according to the number of secondary students being supported
Current projects underway:
We are seeking final funding to complete the ultimate classroom block of two classes that will result in one class for each year's group. This will eliminate the need for the doubling up of classes who attend on a rota basis. Partial funding for this project has been provided thus far by the students of a British School for Girls, London, England.
We estimate that €15.000 would complete the building and provide the furnishings.
